Chantelle History

Originally known for their corsets and girdles, the history of Chantelle stretches back to the 19th Century. In 1876, Monsieur Jules Gamischon applied the vulcanization process to fabric, and further utilizing stretchy materials, he began making corsets of elasticized fabric. This was a welcome change for women.  It allowed them to move and breathe easier in their new elasticized corsets, instead of the previous norm of rigid whalebone and metal stays. In 1936, Gamischon’s nephew, Maurice Kretz, took over the company and dubbed the venture the Kretz Company.

In 1902, the company began its corset production and transformed the lingerie market with its designs.  The Chantelle name was established and trademarked by Jules Gamischon in 1950.  The same year the Kretz Company began manufacturing an elasticized (“Lastex”) thread for a new girdle.  Since then, the name Chantelle has established itself and become a well-knowned name in the body-shaping undergarments industry.  Jules Gamischon's grandson, Claude Kretz, drove the creation of the new line. The Chantelle girdle became an instant success and swept the French market. In 1961, the company produced their first Chantelle bras.  The following year, the company opened its first subsidiary outside of Paris, in Germany.

Since its launch in Germany, Chantelle has gained the support of women worldwide.  Innovation and success follows.  The name Chantelle has become a quality source for beautiful lingerie.  It has kept up with the times and never been out of touch with the lingerie needs of the modern woman. Each season, Chantelle observes the trend and need of women and integrates the colors and inspirations into their new styles.
